General

The Svanrevet Naturist Association is a group of people, primarily families, who want to practice naturism, which is a lifestyle in harmony with nature. The association was founded on September 4, 1957. The activities are characterized by communal nudity and aim to encourage self-esteem, respect for others and for the environment.

The association's mission is to promote social interaction between different generations, nationalities and cultures through socializing, outdoor and sporting activities. Activities should be practiced with the family as the basic unit in mind. We also strive to create environments where the practice of communal nudity can be pursued unhindered.

History

Since the 1890s, Falsterbo has been a very popular seaside resort. Many guesthouses, and not least Falsterbohus, made it one of the most popular bathing resorts in the whole of Skåne. Falsterbonäset is surrounded by 40 km of white sandy beach, and it was customary to swim without swimwear. Families often had their own dunes or sand pits where nudity was practiced. However, the beach between Falsterbofyr and Falsterbohus was closed to nude bathing.

After the end of the Second World War, it became possible for people in Malmö to get to the beaches of Skanör-Falsterbo easily. Many had acquired cars, but the railways also helped people get to the beach with special "bathing trains". Bathers were happy to wear swimsuits and many swimmers embraced the new fashion. However, there were some bathers who stubbornly refused to follow the trend. The naked bathers wanted to be left alone, and moved further and further north, towards Ljunghusen.

The Falsterbokanalen canal, between Kämpingebukten and Höllviken, had been built in 1940-1941 and this restricted the beach and put an end to nude bathers. The general opinion in the last years of the fifties and until 1975 was that bathing suits should be used at municipal beaches and parks. This applied to everyone over the age of 7, according to most municipal by-laws, and nude bathing could no longer take place freely.

After the summer of 1957, the last enthusiasts formed "Sällskapet Svanrevet". An association that would safeguard the values of the old bathing culture, free from fashion and exploitation. The town of Skanör-Falsterbo helped the society to lease a piece of land at Knösen, north of Skanör. They had to do without Falsterbo's dunes; instead they were offered a beach meadow and three acres of unused land. The society developed into the Naturist Association Svanrevet, and the land into the Solhejdan leisure area.
